Repairing DBF File When Connection With the Database Fails With MS Visual FoxPro

,
Are you using MS Visual FoxPro in conjunction with dBase database (as backend support) to create the a website for your college project? If yes, are you facing connection problems when accessing the ASP (Active Server Page) page? If still yes, then there are chances that the dBase file, .DBF, has
damaged due to various reasons such as connection issues, virus infections, abrupt system shutdown, etc. You can perform certain way-outs to recover DBF database file. Well, if nothing works out, then you should use a third-party DBF file repair software to repair DBF file.

Taking a real-world example of the discussed issue, consider you want to preview an ASP page that is using a Visual FoxPro table as backend. However, when you tried to view it, it does not show the preview. The follwoing error message is displayed:

"Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e14' [Microsoft][ODBC Visual FoxPro Driver]File '' does not exist.

//, line "

Cause:

The following reasons are responsible for such erroneous behavior:

The FoxPro database files are stored in the same server system as the IIS (Internet Information Services) server AND you have used UNC (Universal Naming Convention) pathing for the DBF files.

The FoxPro database file is placed on a system that is not running the IIS server AND the IIS server has been defined to use Basic authentication to access secured script files.

The FoxPro database file is placed on a system that is not running the IIS server AND the IIS server is defined to use NT Challenge/Response when trying to access secured script files.

The FoxPro database file is placed on a system that is not running the IIS server AND the IIS server is defined to use the IUSR_computername account for anonymous access. AND the accessed script is not secured and is permitting anonymous access AND the IUSR_computername is a local system account whose login credentials are invalid on the remove machine.

Resolution:

To overcome such problem, you can use the following methods:

You should move the FoxPro database file to the server system that is running the IIS server.

You should use Basic Authentication instead of NT Challenge response while accessing secured scripts that will query FoxPro database files stored on another server system.

In case, these methods are unable to bring normalcy for the DBF files then the use of a third-party DBF recovery software should be your utmost priority. These DBF file repair tools are extremely safe in repair DBF file without damaging existing file.
